The Branch covers the Metropolitan areas of Rochdale, Oldham and Bury, and is one of 8 within the CAMRA Greater Manchester Region covering the Greater Manchester area. About the Branch. As a Branch we tend to use Rochdale as the administrative centre of the Branch as it is reasonably easy to get to by public transport from most of the areas across the Branch. This is why all of our Branch meetings are currently held in The Baum, Rochdale.
Apology and Correction - The Flying Shuttle Bury
The winter edition of More Beer incorrectly states that the the Flying Shuttle, 2 Clerke St, Town Centre, Bury BL9 0PN would be affected by plans to redevelop the Rock area of Bury and would be demolished. We now are told this is not the case and sincerely apologise for this erroneous statement. The pub remains open for both drinks and music
Branch Pub Of The Year 2013
The Branch has decided on the Pub Of The Year (POTY) for each of the Metropolitan Boroughs of Rochdale, Oldham and Bury and these were selected at an all members meeting in February 2013. The 3 winners Branch Pub Of The Year (POTY) The area winners for 2013 have been announced as: The Baum, Rochdale; The Hare & Hounds, Bury; and the Ashton Arms, Oldham. At the April meeting the overall POTY for the Branch was decided (show of hands) as The Baum, Rochdale.
Details of the "rules" are in the CAMRA PUB OF THE YEAR - Criteria. For the full details of National Pub Of The Year 2012 - how its done and how it all fits together follow the link. The Baum will, once again, go on to be judged alongside the other POTY's in the Region and a decision will be made as to which one will represent the Region in the "Super Regional" and on to the National Competition. This prestigious award is given to the pub that the branch feels has been truly outstanding during the previous 12 months. Given the scope of the branch and the number of contenders, winning it is no mean feat.
Good Beer Guide 2013
The Branch still has some stocks of this that can be obtained via any Committee member. If you have a fancy mobile 'phone (like the Branch Chairman) with "apps" you will be able to order a similar app as 2012 mobile Good Beer Guide for it very soon.
CAMRA nationally will also be releasing the Good Beer Guide 2013 in popular ePub and Kindle formats plus Sat Nav versions - so warm up your toys! The latest Good Beer Guide 2013.
Get your pub on the Map!
Download the Pubs update form that you can fill in and send to The Branch Pubs Officer. We should then be able to have a full Branch electronic Pubs Guide on What Pub? that is now "live" to all members of the Public.
The Membership Secretary welcomes new members to the branch when they join CAMRA, but then we only write to branch members who have not supplied a current e mail address, however due to the costs and time involved this only happens infrequently. If you have an e mail address and would like to be updated on a regular basis please tell us what it is! Branch members that supply an email address receive a monthly newsletter "CAMRA Calling" with up to the minute news from the branch, as well as reminders about meetings and socials. If you used to get these and have stopped getting them maybe that's because you have changed your e mail address and not told us? If so please contact Branch Membership Secretary.
In addition any Branch member can join our ROB CAMRA Yahoo Group - we use this to communicate information to the members and it really is a useful tool. Please sign up to it, it really is simple!
Please join our ROB CAMRA Yahoo Group, which provides regular updates on other events taking place in the branch area.
